New books and pencils all round, It’s September!

September is my favourite time of year. Since I left school I never really got the hang of January being the time for fresh starts and resolutions (after all who wants to work hard and give up comfort foods in the dead of winter?) and I always feel the ‘back to school’ vibe when September starts. Summer is fun, but by the end of August I am happy for the nights to pull in a bit and the heat to die down. I always start exciting new projects in September and nearly always have a surge in clients. With that in mind I am celebrating...

EVENT: De-stress and sleep well

After the success of the last sleep workshop, I’ve decided to host another one, this time at the brilliant Yogasara Yoga studio on Picton Street, Bristol. Yogasara is my yoga home and one of my favourite spaces. When: Sunday 25th September, 2pm-4pm Cost: £25 Tickets: Eventbrite (or email Emma) We all encounter stress in our lives, but when we get over stressed it can start to impact our lives in a negative way. It can make us lose sleep, and stop taking proper care of ourselves. Once we start to lose sleep, the stress cycle can...

Magic, Miracles and Mesmerism

Magic, Miracles and Mesmerism

I recently saw a seven-year-old client. We had a great few sessions where we sorted out her anxiety and made her more confident to leave mum and head to school each day. If you had asked me how we achieved that I would have said that we used a combination of solution-focused therapy, hypnosis and play and creative therapy. If you had asked her how I helped her, she would have said I used magic. Now don’t worry I am not bewitching children, so please don’t write to my association. But children (and adults too) have fantastic...

20 cheap or free stress-busting hacks

In my last blog I spoke about the importance of self-care, of really looking after yourself for the sake of your own emotional wellbeing and so you have enough resources left to care for others. Now I do believe that people should invest in looking after their mental health as much as they invest in looking after their car at least, and not feel guilt for spending money on themselves, whether that is regular therapy, yoga classes, a gym membership or the occasional holiday away. Seriously, you deserve it. However I also know that these...

The Importance of self-care

The Importance of self-care

In previous blog posts I’ve talked about the importance of a mental health hygiene routine, having an emotional-first aid kit and the importance of learning effective relaxation techniques, getting good exercise and talking an emotional needs audit. But all of these techniques, habits and actions all boil down to one factor – the importance of self-care. What is self-care? Self-care means looking after yourself and ensuring your emotional, physical and mental needs are being met. If you’re not sure what they might be, then it might be...

5 Essential books for your emotional wellbeing

So in my last blog I explained the importance of having an emotional first aid kit, and I explained how books are my most potent medicine. I am generally an avid reader and I read for study, for pleasure and as an important part of my mental health hygiene routine. I want to share with you five books in my first-aid kit library, which can be prescribed for when you are facing certain situations. It is only a small sample, but a broad one and I would recommend these to any clients, friends, or family members who need specific boosts. If...

What’s in your Emotional First-Aid Kit?

Posted by on May 20, 2016 in Empowerment, Hypnotherapy, Wellbeing | 1 comment

What’s in your Emotional First-Aid Kit?

I’m sure most of you have a first-aid kit somewhere. If you have kids you may even have a whole cupboard crammed with everything from sparkly plasters to Calpol. Or perhaps it’s more of a hangover kit with a cooling gel eye-mask, ibuprofen and Berocca? If you’re off on a camping trip, you’re more than likely to make sure the TCP and bandages are packed. But what are your provisions when you get emotionally wounded? What’s in your kit for a broken heart, a disappointment at work, grief, anger, panic or stress? These conditions may not...
